Rheumatology : outpatient referrals

Referrals accepted from:

• Referrals from NHS GGC and the Western Isles.
• Referrals from surrounding areas will be vetted and placed in a locality network clinic ie Vale of Leven, Inverclyde.

Reasons for referral:

Children with rheumatic diseases need to be diagnosed promptly and will be referred to a specialist paediatric rheumatology multidisciplinary team who can provide support for the child and their family.

• juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) are a group of different types of arthritis including:
  • systemic JIA
  • polyarticular JIA
  • polyarticular onset: rheumatoid factor positive JIA
  • oligoarticular arthritis
  • enthesitis-related arthritis
  • psoriatic arthritis
• Our colleagues in the Ophthalmology team provide care and treatment for uveitis (inflammation inside the eye), which affects many children and young people who have JIA.
• arthritis associated with other chronic diseases
• scleroderma including systemic sclerosis and localised scleroderma
• juvenile dermatomyositis
• systemic lupus erythematosus
• overlap connective tissue disease
• vasculitis including Kawasaki disease, polyarteritis nodosa and other vasculitides
• chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis
• Autoinflammatory conditions including familial mediterranean fever (FMF), CINCA, Cryopyrin-Associated Periodic Syndrome (CAPS) and other genetic periodic fevers
• Systemic inflammatory conditions including sarcoidosis
• Mechanical disorders affecting the musculoskeletal system
• Heritable disorders of connective tissue
• Chronic musculoskeletal regional pain syndromes
